ectopic thyroid


  • usually connects to normal thyroid

  • sites:
    • lingual thyroid
    • thyroglossal duct remnant
    • anterior mediastinum ("retrosternal thyroid")
    • btw trachea and esophagus
    • struma ovarii (teratoma variant)

  • use pertechnetate first (rather than I-131) because of lower dose
