Legg-Calve-Perthes disease

• idiopathic avascular necrosis ("osteochondritis") of proximal femoral epiphysis
• probably 2' to acute or chronic trauma (Cf: AVN)

• MALES (90%) (converse of CDH)
• unilateral (90%)
• peak age: 4 - 8 yrs
• uncommon before 3 y/o except in CDH
• self-limited
• can progress to coxa plana
