Budd-Chiari syndrome


obstruction of major hepatic veins

etiology:

  • thrombus (OCs, dehydration, septicemia, polycythemia vera, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria)
  • congenital (web in hepatic v. or IVC)
  • tumor or other mass (eg, hydatid cyst)
  • sickle cell anemia
  • trauma
