sequestrum / involucrum


sequelae of osteomyelitis

  • sequestrum
    • necrotic bone, often denser than surroundings
    • may be resorbed, discharged thru a sinus tract, or persist as a focus of continued infection

  • involucrum
    • bone formed beneath elevated periosteum
    • surrounds sequestrum
