idiopathic pulmonary hemosiderosis

• rare, sporadic, fatal
• mostly in kids (M=F); in adults, M:F = 2:1

• recurrent attacks of pulmonary hemorrhage
  • acute phase: "bat-wing" alveolar infiltrates
  • clears rapidly

• chronic findings:
  • hemosiderosis
  • pulmonary fibrosis
  • cor pulmonale
