• incidence: 1:6000 pregnancies
• multiple cystic structures in nuchal region
• can be seen on OB US
• lack of communication btw cervical lymphatics and venous system

• chromosomal abnormalities (60-80%)
  • Turner syndrome
  • Down syndrome and other trisomies
  • Roberts syndrome (single-gene disorder)
• teratogens

• cystic teratoma, vascular malformations, brachial cleft cyst
• encephalocele:
  • no cranial defect
  • no vertebral anomaly
