empty sella syndrome
etiology
- idiopathic
- most commonly reported in middle-aged obese women
(a/w DM, HTN, normal pituitary function)
- secondary
- familial (very rare)
xray findings:
- sella normal or increased
- intrasellar herniation of subarachnoid space
symptoms:
- headache, visual disorders
- +/- decreased pituitary function
- CSF rhinorrhea
