valvular aortic stenosis
secondary to fusion of commisures between cusps
types:
- bicuspid/unicuspid (95%): in 1-2% of population; M>F;
commonly associated with coarctation
- tricuspid (5%)
- dysplastic thickened aortic cusps
in infants with crtical aortic stenosis:
child/adult:
- LV configuration with normal heart size
- postenotic dilatation
- calcified valve (60% of patients >24 y.o.)
