secondary to hyperplasia of mucosal and muscular elements
Rokitansky-Aschoff sinuses (intramural diverticula)
5% of all cholecystecomies
> 35 years; M:F = 1:3

associated with:

gallstones in 25-75%
cholesterolosis in 33%

findings:

"comet-tail" artifact seen by US - cholesterol crystals in RA sinses
may have smooth sessile fundal mass in GB
may have an "hourglass" configuration with transverse septum
"pearl necklace gallbladder" on OCG
