hyperplastic gastric polyp

• most common type of gastric polyp (75-90%)

• histology: proliferated gastric mucosa with acute and chronic inflammatory infiltrates in lamina propria
• location: randomly distributed in stomach

• associated with
  • chronic atrophic gastritis
  • pernicious anemia

• findings:
  1. sharply delineated polyp with smooth circular border
  2. "Mexican hat sign": stalk seen en face overlying the head of the polyp
  3. sessile/pedunculate; usually multiple
  4. usually < 1 cm
  5. no contour defect in stomach
