fentanyl

• contraindications:
  • MAO inhibitors
  • respiratory problems

• dosing:
  • 50 mcg slow push (over 1-2 minutes) loading
  • 50 mcg q 30 minutes maintenance
  • total dose of not more than 200 mcg/hr

• institute continuous cardiac monitoring & pulse oximetry

• reversal: naloxone (Narcan) 0.2 mg over 2-3 minutes
